Tết!

So in case you didn't know, Tết, otherwise know as the Chinese New Year (for me anyway) is on February 3rd, 2011. This is exciting for it is the year of the cat for Tết and the rabbit for Chinese New Year! To bad no one in my family is a Cat. I myself am a Horse, my younger brother and my mother are both Sheeps, and my dad and my older brother are both snakes. How nice that everyone except me has a pair in the family, but all is well. For Tết as well as Chinese New Year we like to wish everyone a happy and joyous holiday. In Vietnamese this is done by saying Chúc mọi ngườ, and in Chinese we say xin nian kuai le (新年快樂). But in addition to wishing everyone a happy new year you also wish them luck and other things such as good health and prosperity. 
One of my favorite things to do with my mom before the new years is preparing all the food that we are going to offer to the gods. We get a lot of food cooked and ready and make sure that it looks nice when we present it but it is also all vegetarian. In addition I like helping my mom around this time because even when she's stressed she is so nice to me (hehe) this is usually not the case. Something I don't like doing for the new years is cleaning the house and making sure that it is spotless and presentable just like our food. My grandma explained to me that it was to make sure the good fortunes stuck when we got them? I'm not sure if that's the exact meaning but it worked for me when I was a kid :). Also my mom likes to pay her respects to those who have past away like her grandparents and other that she knew. I

During this time we also get lots of red envelopes that are suppose to ward off bad spirits and thoughts, but they are also filled with money! However we only get them if we wish the giver good luck first. The envelopes aren't the only things that are red. We are expected to wear red during the new year because it also scares away evil spirits. They are afraid of the color in general which is why during the new years we put red lanterns and paper things with lucky characters on them. 


In China, as well as Vietnam there are celebrations all over, however in China the celebrations go on for 15 days! In this time there is no work for anyone! You also get to witness dragon dances and other cool things http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM3yeYztTl4. 

Mua sắm!

Tôi thích mua sắm! Trung tâm mua sắm yêu thích của tôi là Somerset, đó là trong Royal Oak. Đây là một trung tâm mua rất lớn với nhiều cửa hàng. Tôi cố gắng và đi mỗi tháng một lần nếu tôi không bận rộn. các cửa hàng yêu thích của tôi là Nordstrom và Neiman Marcus, họ có nhiều sự lựa chọn. Tôi thích mua áo dài và giày dép. Tôi cũng giống như mua đồ trang điểm. Có rất nhiều màu sắc để mua. Mua sắm trực tuyến là thú vị nữa, và đó là đôi khi rẻ hơn. Amazon là giá rẻ để mua sách và khởi động. Tôi thích mua những thứ rẻ tiền tốt đẹp. Tôi tiết kiệm tiền để tôi có thể mua thêm sau này (hihi)! Khi tôi đi mua sắm, tôi thích đi với mẹ tôi. Cô ấy biết những gì sẽ tốt và những gì không. Cô cũng đã có tiền nên tôi không phải trả tiền cho mọi thứ. Ba tôi nói rằng chúng tôi mua quá nhiều, anh ấy không thích nó khi mẹ tôi làm cho anh ta đi mua sắm với cô ấy. Nó không làm phiền tôi biết bố tôi nghĩ. Tôi thích mua sắm rất nhiều. :D  
 

My Bedroom at Home and Supplies for a New Semester!

Phòng ngủ của tôi ở nhà khá lớn. Khi bạn đi bộ qua cửa, giường của tôi ở giữa phòng, chựa vào các bức tường bên phải. Bên trái cái giường, có bàn của tôi. Bên phải cái giường, có tủ sách. Trên tủ sách nhiều quyển sách.  Đằng trước giường tôi, có một tủ quần áo lớn. Treo trên tường trên tủ quần áo, có gương. Cửa có cửa sổ. Các bức tường của phòng ngủ của tôi màu vàng sáng. Rèm cửa sổ của tôi có màu da cam sáng và màu vàng, chăn của tôi là màu trắng. 



Tôi đã không mua những thứ nhiều cho các học kỳ mới. Tôi đã mua nhiều bút, bút chì, và mấy vở. Tôi không cần một chiếc ba lô mới, hoặc một máy tính xách tay mới, vì vậy tôi không cần mua . điện thoại di động của tôi cũng là một máy nghe nhạc vì vậy tôi đã không mua máy nghe nhạc mới. Tôi đã mua rất nhiều thứ cho bạn bè của tôi cho Giáng Sinh. Cho người bạn thân nhất của tôi, tôi mua đôi giày của mình, tôi đã mua tăng mẹ tôi một chiếc vòng cổ, cha tôi có một câu lạc bộ gôn mới. Đối với tôi anh em của tôi ăn tại một nhà hàng. Bây giờ bạn biết những gì trông giống như phòng ngủ của tôi, và những thứ tôi mua. 

Welcome back to a new semester!

Họ tên tôi là Tracie Yu.Tôi sinh ở thành phố Grand Rapids, bang Michigan. Tôi là sinh viên năm thứ ba. Tôi nghiên cứu lịch sử. Trong kỳ nghỉ tôi đã làm việc rất nhiều. Tôi ăn rất nhiều món ăn ngon . Mẹ tôi và tôi đã đi mua sắm nhiều quá. Tôi thường đọc trong kỳ nghỉ, và chơi piano. Khi tuyết rơi, tôi dắt chó đi bô trong tuyết..Tôi đã không làm nhiều cho năm mới, tôi đã làm việc trễ và đã quá mệt mỏi để đi ra ngoài. Học kỳ này tôi lấy bốn lớp học, lịch sử Châu Âu, tiếng Việt, kĩ năng trình báy, và xã hội học.
